Surfside Buslines is the major provider of passenger transport on the Gold Coast. The Company holds the Commercial Service contract with Queensland Transport for the provision of local scheduled bus services for the region extending from Dreamworld in the north to the NSW/Qld border.
Surfside Buslines also holds a similar contract for bus services with the NSW Ministry of Transport for the Northern NSW region from Murwillumbah and the Tweed Coast communities to the NSW/Qld border.
The combination of these two contracts has created a unique cross border bus operation over a massive area including Australia's premier tourist destination, the Gold Coast.
Surfside Buslines operates approximately 300 buses and employs around 500 staff. It is one of the largest private bus operations in Queensland and Australia.
In 1998, Surfside Buslines operated 55 buses and employed 80 staff and has undergone an acquisition program since that time.
Major acquisitions during this time include:
• Tweed Bus Company (May 1993)
• Gold Coast City Bus (Mar 1995)
• Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle (Sept 1998)
Whilst Surfside may be a local bus operator, the nature of its operational environment along the coastal strip of the Gold Coast ensures its position as a major tourist transport provider and the opportunity to provide a wide range of tourist services and products.
Surfside's Gold Coast Highway services operate 24 hours a day at 4-5 minute intervals in peak periods. This is one of the highest service levels of bus transport and one of the only, 24 hour services in Australia.
Surfside has recently branched out into bus manufacturing with new company, Bustech. Specialising in the manufacture of ultra-low floor accessible route buses, Bustech has been the major award winner for bus manufacturing four out of five years. Bustech's latest VST model is designed to have greater seating capacity with lower vehicle weight and less body repair over the life of the bus.
EZY PASS
In addition to the Translink products, Surfside Buslines also offers the Ezy Pass, which is an unlimited travel pass valid for 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 days.
